breeders' cup mile - reaction

Eddie Castro (jockey, Miesque's Approval, 1st): - "Marty (Wolfson) gave me instructions to ride him the same way as in the Sunshine Millions. I took him back and at the 3/8-pole started to move, and then I took a chance to take him to the outside. He likes the outside. I'm very happy. This is my first (Breeders' Cup) win."

Marty Wolfson (trainer, Miesque's Approval, 1st): - "That's the way he's run all year. He deserved it."

Corey Nakatani (jockey, Aragorn, 2nd): - "I was sitting in a real good spot about four or five lengths behind, but he was struggling with the track. He ran as good as he did strictly on class and because he's got a lot of heart. The turf course was really sandy and loose. He just wasn't handling it at all, period. Normally, he just kicks it off and cruises along, and when I turn him loose, he just blows by then. "

Neil Drysdale (trainer, Aragorn, 2nd): - "He tried his heart out, but he couldn't handle the ground. It was too soft for him. The winner loved it (ground). He (Aragorn) went a bit wide, but it didn't make any difference. He wasn't going to get there."

Edgar Prado (jockey, Badge of Silver, 3rd) - "He ran a super race. Bobby (trainer Frankel) had him ready to run to run an A-plus race and he did. The winner is a nice horse. My horse never gave up."

Ken Ramsey (owner, Badge of Silver, 3rd): - "I think it's a hell of a success against this kind of field, and not having run since Jan. 1. Third! That's great. That's a lot of publicity for him as a stud. I always keep my options open, and he hasn't won a Grade 1 yet. So we may take on Discreet Cat in the Cigar Mile on Nov. 25 (Aqueduct). We're really pleased. It was a good team effort."

Julien Leparoux (jockey, Gorella, 7th): - "The winner was right next to me and I was hoping to come when he made his move, but she couldn't. It's too quick to say it wasn't her day. We'll have to see how she comes out of this race. She had a good race, there's really no excuse."

Patrick Biancone (trainer, Gorella, 7th): - "I don't think there was much of an excuse today. Racing like that, it's the biggest race of the year, and you have the all the best horses in the world. Today she fired a little bit later than usual, but she's done great all year, and we still love her, and we're very proud of her. No excuses."

John Velazquez (jockey, Araafa, 9th): - "We got a good position going into the first turn. I got him running and he just flattened out down the lane. He didn't move on."

Jeremy Noseda (trainer, Araafa, 9th): - "I'm really disappointed but he had no excuses. He didn't really fire on the day. I can't say any more."
