breeders' cup filly & mare turf - reaction
Frankie Dettori (jockey, Ouija Board, 1st): - "She felt better than she ever has. We were really excited coming into today because of how great she's been running. She's proven herself the 'Queen of Racing.' My only concern was letting the gray (Wait a While) get away from me. Satwa Queen and I had a little scrap, we were just in a little tight. Getting clear to the wire, I just enjoyed the ride. Not many horses win two Breeders' Cups. She's done that. I'm very lucky to ride her. We've been nervous for a while because we know how good she is. She sure delivered to the public today. There were no anxious moments. She took me 'round so easily. She's undoubtedly the best filly in the world now."
Ed Dunlop (trainer, Ouija Board, 1st): - "She's the best. There's no other way of saying it. She's won two Breeders' Cups and finished second in another. I'm lucky to have had her in my life. It was a dream run and a dream ride. Frankie said it's the best she's ever been. She has the class to quicken and she showed it once again. Fantastic result."
Edgar Prado (jockey, Film Maker, 2nd): - "She had a beautiful trip. She broke well, saved ground on the first turn, very comfortable. I thought I had a hell of a chance when the rail opened up. My filly was trying real hard to get there. The winner is just really nice."
H. Graham Motion (trainer, Film Maker, 2nd): - "I'm disappointed. Our filly ran a tremendous race, but Ouija Board is one of the all-time greats. That's three years in a row we've tried to beat her. I thought if ever we could beat her, it would be today. Edgar (Prado) gave her every chance, and if Oujia Board had been stopped anywhere, my filly could have won. I'd like to come back again when Ouija Baord is retired."
John Velazquez (jockey, Honey Ryder, 3rd): - "I think for me, it went terrible, but great for the rest of them. She finally started running in the stretch."
Garrett Gomez (jockey, Wait a While, 4th): - "She really ran good today. When I asked her at the 3/8-pole, she just didn't have that usual turn of foot. I know she's better than that. She's proven herself better than that. They're not human, but they're allowed to have bad days also."
Todd Pletcher (trainer, Honey Ryder, 3rd; Wait a While, 4th; & Quiet Royal, 9th): - "I got good runs from two of my horses (Honey Ryder and Wait a While). They both looked like they got good trips, having gotten to make their runs. Wait a While appeared to hang a bit late but Honey Ryder really came running at the finish. Sometimes when you get beat by a filly like Ouija Board, all you've got to do is tip your cap to her. She's a superstar and sometimes you just get beat."
