Street Sense creeps through on the rail.

breeders' cup juvenile - reaction

Calvin Borel (jockey, Street Sense, 1st): - "My strategy is always to come up the rail. The boss (Carl Nafzger) just told me to ride my race. That's why we do so good together. I just had so much horse. I wasn't worried about finding room. He just didn't like the Polytrack (Keeneland). I got on him the other day, and he was unbelievable. All along, I believed he was a racehorse and in the last one at Keeneland, he didn't handle the track and a lot of people forgot about that. I believe he's one of the best 2-year-olds I've ever been on in my life and we'll see what he does from here."

Carl Nafzger (trainer, Street Sense, 1st): - "I didn't expect that kind of performance but I knew that he was a freaky kind of horse, a really nice horse. We love to win at Churchill. We always have. He's my Derby horse. I'd be a fool to say he wasn't."

Garrett Gomez (jockey, Circular Quay, 2nd): - "Nothing happened at the start. If you watched his races at Saratoga, he just walks out of there. That's just him. He's real lackadaisical, but that's one thing that makes him such a neat horse. He's actually a very professional horse. He settled in real good, but just like he was the other day (Breeders' Futurity), he wasn't involved early. The 8-horse (Teuflesberg) was acting all stupid and everything in the gate, jumping up and down and everything, but my horse stayed quiet. Once he got out of the gate, I just let him do his thing. He started passing horses and I reached for him when he started to lug in a bit, which he has a tendency to do. The winner, who got shut off at the 3/8-pole snuck by me on the inside and when he got through there, he went through there like a blur. He's coming around real nice. He's got a bright future."

Todd Pletcher (trainer, Circular Quay, 2nd; Scat Daddy, 4th; & King of the Roxy, 8th): - "I thought Circular Quay ran a huge race. He dropped way back and circled the field. He was just second best. The winner ran a blinder (brilliant) obviously, but Circular Quay ran a big race. Scat Daddy was maybe a bit close to the pace, but ran on pretty well to finish fourth. King of the Roxy just lacks a little experience."

Corey Nakatani (jockey, Great Hunter, 3rd): - "He ran really good. There was a little bit of bumping going into the first turn. I was able to get into good position turning for home, but the inside opened up and the horse on the rail was gone."

Doug O'Neill (trainer, Great Hunter, 3rd): - "I'm happy. I'm very happy. He made a terrific move for us on the turn and I thought he might have a chance to win it, but we got beat on the square and my horse did his best. I have no complaints, I'm happy."

John Velazquez (jockey, Scat Daddy, 4th): - "He was right where I wanted him to be as far as position goes. I had him where I wanted him and I felt I was in a really good spot. When we turned for home, I didn't have the horse I thought I had, but it didn't matter because the winner shot through there on the rail and it was all over. I think the top three horses had come off the Polytrack."

Kent Desormaux (jockey, Stormello, 5th): - "He just got outrun. It wasn't from a lack of trying. He gave all he had."

Victor Espinoza (jockey, Principle Secret, 14th): - "We looking good for a minute but after that, that was about it."
