Ouija Board works under Dettori.

derby considering ouija plans

By Neil Morrice, PA Sport

Ouija Board's owner Lord Derby spent Friday afternoon in Lexington on a carefully-planned tour of the stud farms where he pinpointed potential mates for his brilliant mare.

On hand to watch the five-year-old work under Frankie Dettori at Churchill Downs on Friday, Lord Derby then made the 80-mile trip from Louisville.

He said: "I shall be looking round a number of studs in Kentucky and though Kingmambo has been put on the short list as a likely mate, it's not just a one-horse race.

"We want to find the very best horses we can send her to," he said.

Lord Derby is hoping to run Ouija Board in both the Japan Cup and Hong Kong Vase before she heads to the paddocks, but he and trainer Ed Dunlop will not make a definite decision before tomorrow's race.

He added: "Subject to how she gets on, we are keen to go twice more but it would be completely wrong to say that's definite before the Filly & Mare.

"It's amazing that she's become more than just a horse in Britain and is something of an icon and what this Sport Of Kings is all about."
