Rob Roy - likes soft ground.

stoute hopes rob can steal mile

Sir Michael Stoute hopes there will continue to be cut in the ground on Saturday to help Rob Roy's cause in the Breeders' Cup Mile.

The Champion Stakes runner-up, who will run on medication at Churchill Downs, pleased his trainer when moving stylishly on the turf course.

"His journey here went well and we're very happy with him," said the Newmarket trainer.

"He likes soft ground as he showed in the Champion Stakes and it was good to see that rain yesterday. Hopefully there will be a bit of moisture in it come Saturday.

"His mile form in the Sussex Stakes (third to Court Masterpiece) is very strong, as is his form over further with Pride at Newmarket, and he has a shot."

Commenting on his nine draw, Stoute added: "War Chant came from very wide to win here in 2000 and you always need a bit of luck in the Breeders' Cup Mile."

Rob Roy will be partnered by Ramon Dominguez and Stoute said: "Neil Drysdale recommended Ramon to us and we thought we'd use a Yankee as the colt doesn't have a regular partner in England."
