Wayne Lukas has issued a bullish appraisal of the chances of Pegasus Wind in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
The most successful trainer in the history of the championship meeting believes the son of Fusaichi Pegasus is training well enough to hit the board in Saturday's race.
He said: "I feel I've got him right where I want him. I would have liked to get a two-turn run into him but that would have meant running him on the Polytrack.
"He has a high cruising speed and is a very good gate horse who gets on with the job.
"We might finish second or third - we'll be in the hunt."
Of Pegasus Wind, who was bred by Steve Cauthen, Lukas added: "He worked today (Tuesday) and it was an excellent morning for him. His move through the lane looked very good."
On the only occasions Lukas has been represented in a single Breeders' Cup race on the card, he has saddled the winner.
He sent out Folklore and Ex Caelis to finish first and fourth in the Juvenile Fillies' last year, and in 2002 at Arlington his sole assault on the Sprint proved successful with Orientate winning, although Day Trader finished down the field.
Pegasus Wind is quoted as a 14-1 chance with William Hill for Saturday's big test, while Stan James go 16-1.
