Thor's Echo produced a power-packed display as hot favourite Henny Hughes proved a bitter disappointment in the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
Doug O'Neill's charge was drawn one but Corey Nakatani decided to pull off the rail and challenge down the outside turning into the straight.
The four-year-old Thor's Echo (14-1) accelerated away from runner-up Friendly Island with Nightmare Affair back in third.
Henny Hughes was a little slowly away and John Velazquez was not hard on the 2-1 favourite once his chance was gone.
Nakatani said: "I got away good but Henny Hughes didn't get away that well. I was drawn on the inside but because my horse was handling it I've gone two wide and he's run a tremendous race.
"I just wanted to make sure he had an opportunity to run."
O'Neill said: "It's just incredible. He ran so well in the Ancient Title (Grade One at Santa Anita) and he was only about 90 per cent ready.
"We have so many people to thank for this.
"Having Corey in a big race like this, you could not ask for a better ride. I'm on cloud nine."
