nov 3 - indian's magnificent seven?

Asi Siempre: - Asi Siempre vanned Friday morning from Keeneland to Churchill Downs with the rest of trainer Patrick Biancone's Breeders' Cup contingent: Gorella, Mauralakana and Her Majesty.

A security guard said they settled into the stakes barn (No. 17) about 7 a.m., and soon after they followed a pony out to the track and on into the paddock, where they schooled about 10 minutes. They returned to the track to jog about 1 ¼ m.

"For jogging, it's alright," Biancone said of the track. "It was good enough for me anyway."

Biancone waited until the last minute to ship to Churchill because he preferred training on Keeneland's all-weather Polytrack.

He said his "four good girls" were very professional in the paddock, and he just shrugged when asked about getting No. 12 starting posts for both Asi Siempre and Gorella, who is the 4-1 favorite in the Mile.

Baghdaria: - The Indiana Oaks Breeders' Cup winner just jogged over the Churchill track in her final preparation on Friday and will walk the barn on Saturday morning before the Distaff.

"She's doing great," reported trainer Tom Amoss. "Both of my horses are ready to go."

Amoss will also saddle Rush Bay in the Turf

Balletto: - Trainer Tom Albertrani said he was pleased with the appearance of the 4yo Darley filly Friday morning. The daughter of Timber Country galloped 1 ¼ m.

Balletto was the runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in 2004. She missed the 2005 season, but returned to trainer Tom Albertrani's care this year. She is winless in six starts, but has four seconds, a third and a fourth.

"She's been very consistent this year," Albertrani said. "She's just been a little bit unlucky to fall short of two photos. But right now she couldn't look better going into this race. She certainly looks like she he has a lot of spring in her stride this morning. I'm really happy with the way she's been coming up into this race."

Albertrani said he is optimistic that the presence of a number of speedy horses in the Distaff field will be a plus for the filly, who comes from off the pace.

"That's what we're hoping," he said. "Hopefully it will be strong pace that will help suit her and she can come with her late run again, have a good, clean trip. And hopefully she could get that Grade I race this year that we've been looking for."

Fleet Indian: -The 5yo New York-bred Indian Charlie mare galloped a mile and a quarter this morning. Riding an eight-race winning streak, she has more than earned her chance at a Breeders' Cup victory.

"I guess I was a little surprised that she would be 6-for-6 this year and win two Grade 1s along the way," Pletcher said. "But I don't know if that is her being an overachiever or if it is her talent fulfilling itself. I liked the fact that in the Beldame, she showed us that she doesn't need the lead to run a big race."

Happy Ticket: - Stewart Madison's 5yo mare Happy Ticket walked the shedrow at Churchill Downs on Friday morning. Trainer Andrew Leggio, Jr. said her training for the Distaff is all finished now.

When asked about how he sees the race unfolding, Leggio said, "There are so many versatile horses in there, so many that could go to the lead, I don't know what's going to happen. It's a wide-open affair. She has enough tactical speed to break and get on over."

Madison, who has 15 other horses in training - mostly in Louisiana - said, "I don't think I'll get many more like these. She is the second all-time money earner in Louisiana. We need $34,000...hopefully we'll get it Saturday."

Happy Ticket is already the all-time leading female Louisiana-bred earner. The overall leader is Scott's Scoundrel with $1,270,052. The difference is $33,214.

Healthy Addiction: - Trainer John Sadler had his mare out on the main track at 7 a.m. Friday for 1 1/2m gallop. She went strongly over the Churchill oval with exercise rider Jose Alferez at the controls.

"She likes getting out early," Sadler offered. "And I'll probably do a little something with her tomorrow morning."

The 5yo Boston Harbor offspring, coming off back-to-back stakes tallies in California, will have Victor Espinoza in the irons Saturday.

Hollywood Story: - Trainer John Shirreffs had his Breeders' Cup Distaff starter on the track at 7:30 Friday morning for a 1 ½ m tour of the Churchill Downs main track. Exercise rider Michelle Jensen was aboard for the gallop.

The Wild Rush mare has made the most starts of any of the Distaff competitors - a total of 26. She's finished in the top three in 16 of those outings and has more than $1.1-million to show for her efforts.

David Flores, who has partnered her in her last three races, will be aboard again Saturday.

Lemons Forever: - The Kentucky Oaks winner continued her preparations for her final start for her connections with a 1m gallop Friday.

Lemons Forever, co-owned by trainer Dallas Stewart and the Horton Stable, is scheduled to go through the auction ring Tuesday at Keeneland.

Pine Island: - A year ago, Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey captured the Distaff with longshot Pleasant Home, who went off at odds of 30-1.

McGaughey isn't sliding in under the radar this year. Pine Island is the 5-1 second choice on the morning line.

"That's all right," McGaughey said. "I wish we were 3-5."

Pine Island shipped from New York Wednesday and has made a smooth transition to her new surroundings at Churchill Downs. She jogged 1m and galloped 1 1/8m Friday morning.

The Distaff will be Pine Island's first start since she won the Gazelle at Belmont Park on Sept. 9.

"She done everything good, with her little break," McGaughey said. "She had a great breeze at Belmont on Sunday. She shipped down here very well.

"This is all new to her. She's never shipped to run, so she's been all eyes. I thought she trained as good as she could train this morning.

While analyzing the Distaff field, McGaughey was confident that Pine Island will be a major player in the race.

"I don't know that much about the California horses," he said. "She's never run against older horses before, so we'll just have to see. I think it's a good field. Fleet Indian, she hasn't made a mistake so far. Balletto runs hard about every time. She doesn't win, but she runs good every time she runs. I would have to think that she's going to be pretty tough, too, but I think we'll take some beating."

Pool Land: - The well-rested daughter of Silver Deputy galloped a mile and a quarter today.

"She has raced at different track, and she always seems to show up," said trainer Todd Pletcher. "She is another horse who has been a consistent player for us, and who will be tough if she can work out the right trip.'

Round Pond: - It was a busy Friday morning for the Fox Hill Farm filly, who is making her first start in the Breeders' Cup.

Trainer Michael Matz said the 4yo daughter of Awesome Again jogged 1m, galloped 1 1/8m and spent time standing in the starting gate.

Sharp Lisa: - Trainer Doug O'Neill indicates this 4yo daughter of Dixieland Band is training as well as she ever has and his assistant, Leandro Mora, has tagged her the "best long shot of the day."

To that end, the filly galloped 1 1/2m Friday morning at Churchill Downs with regular exercise rider Antonio Romero aboard. Sharp Lisa is listed at 50-1 on the morning line, far and away the longest odds in the Distaff.

As to her spot in the race, O'Neill said, "She's a grade I winner and she deserves a chance. She's supposed to be sold Sunday night [at Fasig-Tipton breeding sale]. She's training great and she'll be running with blinkers for the first time."

Spun Sugar: - The 9 f. distance of the Distaff seems ideal for this 4yo daughter of 1998 Classic winner Awesome Again. She has two wins and a second in four tries at this distance. In her last start at this distance, she ran eighth in the Spinster on Keeneland's Polytrack.

"I just don't think she liked that track," said trainer Todd Pletcher. "Except for that race, she has been a very consistent filly and she will be tough if she runs her race."

Spun Sugar galloped a mile and a quarter this morning.
