Adhrhythm: - Two-time stakes-winner Adhrhythm galloped at Churchill Downs on Thursday morning, later than usual after assistant trainer Frank Perez decided the track was too wet to run over earlier in the morning.
Trainer Eddie Plesa, Jr. was traveling to Louisville Thursday from south Florida.
A Florida-bred, Adhrhythm won her last three races by significant margins. The Juvenile Fillies will be her first foray outside of Florida.
Adhrhythm drew post nine and is listed as 12-1 on the morning line. Jockey Edgar Prado will ride her for the first time.
Plesa has had one previous starter in the Breeders' Cup. Three Ring finished third in the 1998 Juvenile Fillies here at Churchill Downs.
Appealing Zophie: - The Successful Appeal filly galloped 1m and stood in the gate on Thursday.
The Juvenile Fillies contender will be the first of two Breeders' Cup starters saddled by trainer Scott Blasi in his first appearance as head trainer. He will also start Super Frolic in the Mile. Blasi was the long time assistant to Steve Asmussen before taking over the entire stable this summer while Asmussen serves a suspension.
"I'm actually pretty relaxed," said Blasi. "I'm very happy with where Appealing Zophie is at. Both my horses are physically doing as well as they can be. We've been to several Breeders' Cups before, but I do think the filly is one of our best chances."
Bel Air Beauty: - The Alcibiades winner came out to the track at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, stood along the rail for several minutes and then galloped 1 ½ m under regular rider Lisa Sloan.
"She's feeling great," reported Sloan, who is also assistant to trainer Frank Brothers. "She loves this weather."
When complimented on this filly's appearance this morning, Brothers said "pretty is as pretty does in this game. She galloped 1 ½ miles and is doing fine."
Cash Included: - The morning line favorite at 3-1 galloped across the wet Churchill Downs surface for 1 ¼ m as she took another step toward Saturday's Juvenile Fillies for trainer Craig Dollase.
It was the filly's first gallop over the track, having walked the shedrow on Tuesday following her arrival on Monday, and jogging a mile on the sloppy surface Wednesday morning.
"She looked like she handled the surface well," Dollase said. "It was a nice easy gallop. She'll do the same thing tomorrow."
Also watching the filly gallop was former Kentucky Governor Brereton Jones, who is the master of Airdrie Stud and the breeder of Cash Included.
"If this filly wins Saturday, I'll be flying down to the winner's circle," Jones said, adding that his stallion, Include, is the sire of another Juvenile Fillies entrant, She's Included. Lava Man's sire is Slew City Slew, who also stands at Airdrie in Midway, Ky.
Cotton Blossom: - Another of trainer Todd Pletcher's horses that did not do well at Keeneland, the Broken Vow filly nevertheless has a strong record and has been coming into this race well.
"She has kept her enthusiasm and looks like she is ready to run," Pletcher said. "I think we had the wrong handle on the Polytrack when we initially ran there with some of our horses."
Dreaming of Anna - Frank Calabrese's homebred Dreaming of Anna galloped
1 ½ m after the renovation break at Churchill Downs under exercise rider Carlos Alicea.
Dreaming of Anna is listed as the 4-1 second choice in the Juvenile Fillies and will break from post one under jockey Rene Douglas, who will be seeking his first Breeders' Cup victory.
"The post is fine," said trainer Wayne Catalano, who is also looking his first Breeders' Cup victory. "We have enough speed to do what we need to do."
Gatorize: - Gatorize galloped 1 ½ m Thursday, and trainer Helen Pitts said the Exploit filly would gallop again Friday and then walk the morning of the Breeders' Cup.
The granddaughter of Storm Cat drew the extreme outside, but, Pitts said, "with our (come-from-behind) style, we should be all right. I know there's speed in there."
Her Majesty: - Her Majesty, still stabled at Keeneland, jogged 1 ½ m Thursday, 24 hours after a 4f work that trainer Patrick Biancone timed in 47.
Her Majesty and Biancone's three other Breeders' Cup starters (Gorella, Asi Siempre and Mauralakana) were scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs Thursday afternoon, but the trainer switched gears and rescheduled the van ride for Friday morning. All Breeders' Cup starters must be on the grounds by noon Friday.
Lilly Carson: - In preparation for just her third career start, the Carson City filly galloped 1 ½ m prior to the renovation break.
"She doing great," said trainer Ralph Nicks, a former jockey and assistant to Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. "With the way she's been training all week, we'll have no excuses come Saturday."
Octave: - Thursday's cool temperatures seemed to bring out the best in this Unbsome like in this Unbridled Song filly.
"She has really responded and just missed in the Matron," said trainer Todd Pletcher. "She has looked very impressive."
Quick Little Miss: - Annabelle Stute and The Hat Ranch's Quick Little Miss galloped 1 m after the renovation break at Churchill Downs under exercise rider Edmundo Gonzalez.
Trainer Mel Stute plans to school Quick Little Miss in the paddock Thursday afternoon or Friday morning just as a part of regular routine.
Quick Little Miss arrived from Southern California on Tuesday and Stute said she has settled in nicely at Barn 37 with the change in weather no problem.
"Horses love the cold," Stute said. "I am more concerned about the mud should it come up muddy, because I don't think she has ever been on it. However, she seemed to like it this morning and Unbridled, her grandfather, seemed to handle it."
Quick Little Miss, listed at 30-1 on the morning line, will exit post 13 under jockey Jon Court, who will be seeking his first Breeders' Cup victory.
Satulagi: - The Kentucky-bred daughter of Officer, who has done all her racing in England, broke from the starting gate with jockey John Egan aboard Thursday morning and was allowed to breeze out to the finish line.
Clockers caught the 4f move in 50 4/5.
"She was very good at the stalls," trainer Stan Moore said. "David Carroll (a Churchill Downs trainer) helped immensely this morning. He sent out a horse with my filly and they went in the stalls together. My filly actually had a better start than his.
"She jumped off at the sound of the bell, and breezed to the finish post. The assistant starter said she did everything perfectly and that he was happy with her."
This will be the first start on dirt for Satulagi, who is the most experienced of all the runners in the Juvenile Fillies with nine starts this year. However, she made her debut on the all-weather track at Lingfield on March and ran well to be third.
She trained from the gate Thursday morning because several of the comments on her previous races noted that she "missed the break."
"We've been working with her at home in the stalls," said Moore. "I wanted her to hear the bell and break well today, and she did."
Satulagi was named by owner Mrs. Fitri Hay, an native of Indonesia. The name means "one more" in Indonesian.
"As in one more for the road," the trainer's wife, Sara, said with a smile.
She's Included: - Exercise rider Jose Valcso escorted the bay filly to the racetrack Thursday morning for a 1 ½ m jog around the Churchill strip. The exercise took place at 6:45 on a wet track that went from sloppy to good over the course of the morning.
The Include filly's trainer, Christopher Paasch, was taking care of business away from the track Thursday morning, so his chief deputy - his wife Bonnie - was on hand for the gentle exercise.
"She went fine and she's doing fine," said Bonnie Paasch, who is licensed as a trainer in Kentucky.
She's Included will break from post five Saturday in the Juvenile Fillies with Victor Espinoza in the saddle.
Sutra: - Oak Crest Farm's Sutra went to the main track at Churchill Downs after the renovation break with exercise rider Rolando Rodriguez up for a 1 ½ m gallop after a trip to the paddock.
The Michael Stidham trainee, listed at 20-1 on the morning line, will break from post under jockey Mike Luzzi.
"The post is great, because you can't do anything but save ground around the first turn, and that never hurts," Stidham said. "She can let the speed go and get position around the first turn and save ground."
Sutra comes into the Juvenile Fillies off a 1 ¾-length victory in the Frizette, a one-turn mile at Belmont Park that was accomplished in 1:40 1/5.
"We are just really happy to be here and I don't care about any of that stuff," Stidham said of the critics who have panned the Frizette victory. "We are in the gate as one of the 14 and we will see what happens."
The track was listed as fast for the Frizette, but Stidham said, "from where I was and watching them warm up, the track was deep, deep, deep for that race. There was a strong wind, and I don't know if any of that mattered.
"I am not making excuses (for the time). All I know is is that we loaded up in the same gate and she came home almost two lengths in front and that's the bottom line."
